- Dardanus pedunculatus -
Many species of unidentified crabs arrive in the marine aquarium within pieces of rock. Some will remain small and innocuous, while others will increase in size and become very destructive. Being mostly nocturnal, the only clue to their presence is the discarded exoskeleton, left in a prominent position.
Many crabs can be very useful additions to any marine tank as they will form part of a ‘clean up crew’ scavenging for discarded particles of food and generally keeping the floor of the tank clean. Beware some crabs have been know to nip at fish during the night and therefore cause un-wanted stress.
